Techiman Omanhene Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV Unanimously Elected to Council of State for Bono East Region

Oseadeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Omanhene (Paramount Chief) of the Techiman Traditional Area, has been unanimously elected as the representative for the Bono East Region on the Council of State. In the election held in Techiman on Saturday, February 20, 2021, he secured all 22 valid votes, defeating his only opponent, Agyapong Adu-Baah (Dr. Patapaa).

The election, initially scheduled for an earlier date, was postponed after a legal challenge by assemblyman Kennedy Afolabi, who sought to block the exercise after his name was allegedly unlawfully substituted in the electoral college list.

The Sunyani High Court dismissed Afolabi’s suit, ruling the Electoral Commission was not responsible for the substitution, and imposed a GH¢3,000 cost on him. Eight other candidates had withdrawn prior to the voting.

In his victory speech, Oseadeyo Ameyaw IV stressed the importance of consensus building for the development of the new region and committed to mentoring young people for future leadership roles. The acting Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Kofi Amoakohene, congratulated the Omanhene and urged regional support for his tenure on the Council of State.
