Techiman Declared Capital of New Bono East Region Amid Controversy Over Consultation

President Nana Akufo-Addo officially designated Techiman as the capital of the newly created Bono East Region during a ceremony at Jubilee House on Wednesday, where he presented the Constitutional Instrument formalizing the region’s creation.
In support of the transition, the government has allocated GH₵20 million to Bono East, along with the five other newly created regions, to ensure smooth commencement of operations. Evans Opoku-Bobie, the current Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, has been appointed as the caretaker Minister for the new region until a permanent appointment is made.
The President had earlier presented Constitutional Instruments for the creation of the Savannah Region (with Damango as its capital) and the North East Region (with Nalerigu as its capital).
However, the announcement for Bono East has been met with controversy. The chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area have publicly accused the Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Dan Botwe, and his Deputy, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, of deliberately excluding them from the crucial consultation process regarding the region’s creation.
