Techiman Youth Protest Fake Spiritualists and Money Doublers, Calling for Security Action

The Techiman Youth Association organized a peaceful Sunday demonstration in the Techiman Municipality to condemn the activities of spiritualists, mallams, and money doublers whom they accuse of exploiting and defrauding local residents.
Dressed in red and black and carrying urgent placards – including calls to “Drive All Fake Mallams Out” and “Save Us Mr. President” – the protesters marched through the main streets to raise awareness about the alleged exploitation.
Mr. Kwadwo Adjei, the Association’s Chairman, alleged that these fraudsters use deceptive means to take money from innocent people. He claimed that when these spiritualists fail to deliver on promises (like money doubling), they often resort to violence, using hired thugs who, according to Adjei, have connections to some local chiefs. He stressed that the protest aimed to pressure local authorities to act and to clear the town’s reputation to attract legitimate investors.
Adjei lamented the lack of state intervention against these illegal acts, urging the police and local authorities to protect citizens’ investments. Corroborating the youth’s concerns, Iddrisu Awudu, the Brong Ahafo Regional Regulatory Officer of the Traditional Medicine Practitioners Council (TMPC), clarified that while the Council licenses herbal practitioners for healing, there is absolutely no official license for money doubling. Awudu warned the public against such fraudulent claims and urged them to report illegal activities.
