tragically Deadly Rainstorm Causes Widespread Flooding in Techiman, Displacing Hundreds

A heavy rainstorm that lasted for five hours, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2023, caused widespread flooding across the Techiman South Municipality in the Bono East Region, leaving residents and motorists stranded.1
The deluge resulted in significant damage, including:
- Fatalities: The death of one resident, Mr. Yussif Issaka, confirmed by the NADMO Director.
- Property Damage: Destruction of 78 houses, six light poles, and a school block in the Ahembroniso area, among other damage in suburbs like Sansama and Tuobodom.
- Displacement: Over a thousand people were reportedly displaced.
Charles Amponsah, the Assembly Member for Aworowa, issued an urgent appeal for aid from the government and NGOs. Mr. Eric Aseidu, the NADMO Director for Techiman South, confirmed that initial support, including 45 packets of roofing sheets, 90 bags of cement, and four boxes of nails, had been provided, with more supplies expected.
Meanwhile, DO III Henry Esson, the Municipal Fire Commander, commended the Techiman Municipal Fire Command for successfully conducting two rescues during the flood and urged residents to improve disaster management practices by avoiding the dumping of rubbish in gutters, which exacerbates flooding.
