British-Sierra Leonean actor and Golden Globe winner, Idris Elba, is headlining the second annual Africa Cinema Summit (ACS), organized by Ghana’s National Film Authority. The four-day event, held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, began on October 7, 2024, and concluded on October 10.

The summit’s theme is “Cinema Relevant in African Communities.” Elba, who is also the chairman of IE7 and The Akuna Group, is leading the discussions alongside other industry figures, including Fiona Lamptey, a former Netflix executive and co-founder of Juno Studios.

Elba’s arrival at Kotoka International Airport was marked by a vibrant cultural performance. The opening day of the summit featured speeches from Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, his Deputy, Mark Okraku-Mantey, and notable members of the creative arts community from across Africa, all gathering to discuss and shape the future of African cinema.
