Techiman Education Directorate Distributes Nearly 90,000 PPE to 297 Schools to Combat COVID-19

The Techiman Municipal Education Directorate (GES) has distributed a total of 89,589 pieces of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 297 public and private schools in the municipality to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The distribution benefited approximately 81,706 students across six public SHSs, 172 public basic schools (Primary and JHS), and 119 private schools. The PPE included face masks, hand sanitizers, tissues, and liquid soap.

Mr. Stephen Adu, the Assistant Director of Education for Finance and Administration, stated that the distribution demonstrates the Directorate’s commitment to implementing the government’s safety protocols. He emphasized that Circuit Supervisors would conduct regular monitoring and education to ensure compliance among teachers and students.

Despite the supply, a visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) revealed low adherence to safety protocols among some teachers and students at schools like the Ameyaw Akumfi cluster.

However, one teacher from the cluster, Mr. Chris Anane, assured the GNA that staff are committed to enforcing the rules, stating that no student would be allowed into class without a face mask. Mr. Adu also appealed to parents to reinforce mask-wearing and handwashing practices at home.
