Bono East REGSEC Condemns Techiman South Election Violence and Shooting Incident

The Bono East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has issued a strong condemnation of the violence, which included a fatal shooting, that occurred in the Techiman South constituency during the 2020 General Elections.
In a statement signed by Regional Minister Kofi Amoakohene, REGSEC extended its condolences to the families of those who were killed and injured during the incidents.
The Council pledged to offer support to the affected families and confirmed that the Regional Election Security Task Force is actively leading an investigation into the shooting. REGSEC appealed to the public to provide any relevant evidence to the Regional Police CID to assist the probe.
The violence erupted at the election collation center following a dispute over the results, where Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah (NPP) was declared the winner over Christopher Beyere (NDC). Security forces fired warning shots to disperse the agitated crowd, resulting in one death and several injuries.
REGSEC urged all political parties and individuals involved to pursue peaceful resolution of grievances and to avoid any actions that could incite further violence. The Council also called upon the media and opinion leaders to be responsible and refrain from making inflammatory statements.
