Six Dead, Including Infant, in Tragic Ashanti Region Apartment Fire

A devastating fire at an apartment in Abuakwa Manhyia, located within the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has claimed the lives of six people. The victims, who included a three-month-old infant, were tragically trapped inside the building when the blaze erupted around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025.
According to Evans Opoku, the Assembly Member for the area, the fire was reported shortly after electricity was restored following a temporary power outage that had affected parts of the region on Sunday evening.
Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie stations arrived at the scene and successfully brought the flames under control, but they were unable to reach the occupants in time. The Ghana National Fire Service and local police have since recovered the charred remains of the victims and are making arrangements to transport them to the morgue.
While an official investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the inferno, local residents have expressed concerns regarding potential electrical surges linked to the recent power fluctuations.
