Pep Guardiola Admits Sleep and Diet Affected by Career-Worst Run

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that his current career-worst run of results is taking a personal toll, affecting his sleep and diet, although he insisted he is “fine.”

In a previous interview, Guardiola admitted his state of mind was “ugly,” that he was sleeping “worse,” and eating lighter due to digestion issues. When asked to elaborate, he acknowledged that in his line of work, poor performance naturally leads to discomfort compared to when things are going well.

City is heading into the Manchester derby against United this Sunday at the Etihad Stadium having won only one of their last 10 games. The most recent defeat, against Juventus in the Champions League, has even put their spot in the lucrative play-off round at risk.

Guardiola emphasized that the team must immediately improve their defense and “avoid making mistakes at both ends.” He pointed specifically to the 4-1 loss against Sporting earlier in the run, stating he would like the team to replicate the dominant first-half performance they showed in Lisbon before they conceded three quick goals.

The team is also facing injury issues, with the prospect of having only three fit defenders for the derby as Nathan Aké and Manuel Akanji race to overcome fitness concerns.
