President Akufo-Addo Commissions New Police Divisional Headquarters in Techiman

During his three-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region, President Nana Akufo-Addo officially commissioned a new, state-of-the-art police station in Techiman, the municipal capital. This new facility will serve as the Police Divisional Headquarters and features key offices, a waiting area, and separate male and female cells. The project, awarded in February 2016, saw its final cost rise to GHc 706,143.38 due to contractor-requested changes.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and all police personnel to demonstrate professionalism and dedication in maintaining law and order. He emphasized that fighting rising indiscipline, lawlessness, and armed robbery requires a shared responsibility between the public and security agencies.
Responding to critics, including former President John Dramani Mahama, the President reaffirmed his commitment to the process of creating new regions from the Brong Ahafo Region, stating that all constitutional procedures have been followed and the commission’s report is awaited.
He also reiterated the government’s dedication to social intervention programs aimed at poverty reduction, including the Free SHS initiative (which will admit its second batch in September), the restoration of allowances for nurse and teacher trainees, and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Furthermore, he encouraged youth participation in the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, announcing that 15% of its total investment would be allocated to the Brong Ahafo Region.
IGP David Asante-Apeatu praised the facility as a reflection of the community’s peaceful nature and urged collaboration between the police, local chiefs, and residents. Nana Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, the Paramount Chief of Techiman, used the occasion to appeal directly to the President for the creation of the Bono East Region.
The President’s tour activities also included interacting with chiefs in Nkoranza, laying the foundation stone for a new district hospital in Akonkonti (Nkoranza North), and commissioning a new district assembly block in Tuobodom (Techiman North).
