One Dead, Three Fulani Herdsmen Escape Techiman Police Cell After Overpowering Officer

One person died, and three inmates, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, escaped from the Techiman Nsuta police cells in the Brong-Ahafo Region following a jailbreak.
The incident began when residents heard gunfire near the police station. Upon arrival, they found a deceased person, suspected to be a young Fulani man, behind the counter, alongside a lone police officer and a frightened inmate. According to reports, the police officer shot and killed one of the four escaping inmates at the scene.
The escape occurred when the officer opened the cell to provide the inmates with a bucket of water, as the cell’s toilet lacked a direct water source. The four inmates overpowered the officer and fled.
Superintendent George Afari Yeboah confirmed that the four individuals were scheduled to be arraigned this week on charges of theft. Three were on remand for allegedly stealing 17 cows in Yeji, and the fourth was accused of stealing 11 bunches of plantain. The deceased’s body has been taken to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated a manhunt for the three fugitives, sharing information with police stations across and outside the region to ensure their prompt re-arrest.
