Nottingham Forest Ends 23-Year Wait: Promoted to Premier League

Nottingham Forest successfully secured their promotion back to the Premier League after achieving a narrow 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
This momentous win, which occurred on May 29, 2022, ended the club’s 23-year exile from the top flight of English football and was estimated to be worth approximately £170 million.
The promotion capped a brilliant turnaround for their season, which had started poorly with six defeats in their first seven matches.
The decisive and only goal of the match came shortly before half-time. It was recorded as an own goal by Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill, who deflected James Garner’s cross into his own net.
Huddersfield Town improved their play after the break but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their best opportunity for an equalizer resulted in controversy when Harry Toffolo was booked for diving in the penalty area by referee Jon Moss, who was officiating his final professional match before retiring. Although replays suggested some contact from Forest midfielder Jack Colback, the decision was upheld by VAR.
In the face of mounting pressure from Town, Forest held out defensively, sparking scenes of widespread jubilation among their supporters as they celebrated their return to the Premier League.
