MoFA Field Demonstrations Educate Techiman North Farmers on Weather-Smart Maize Production

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) organized field demonstrations in Asuyie, Techiman North District, to teach farmers how to maximize crop yields despite the recent unpredictable rainfall patterns. This initiative aimed to equip farmers with better decision-making skills regarding weather and crop production.
The demonstrations focused on maize cultivation, utilizing specific varieties across four locations with varied fertilizer application timing:
| Location | Maize Variety | Fertilizer Application Date |
| Grotto | Omankwa | 22/10/2019 |
| Mesidan | Oba 98 | 24/10/2019 |
| Akonkonti Road | Omankwa | 22/10/2019 |
| Buoyam S.H.S | Oba 98 | 25/10/2019 |
Despite facing challenges such as difficulty securing easily accessible land, poor germination rates (especially with hybrid seeds), and high pest attacks (including crickets, millipedes, and the fall armyworm) due to surrounding grass cover, the event was considered successful.
All participating farmers showed keen interest in the practical agricultural technologies showcased and committed to adopting the new practices in their farming operations during the next season.
