Techiman Traditional Council Dismisses Claims of Attack on Asantehene’s Convoy, Reaffirms Unity

The Techiman Traditional Council has categorically dismissed allegations circulating on social media that angry residents of Techiman, the Bono East Regional capital, attacked the convoy of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as he returned from a funeral in Nkoranza.
Nana Takyi Firi II, the Krontihene and Acting President of the Council, addressed the claims at a press conference, stressing that the video showing the purported attack was false. He reaffirmed the strong, fraternal relationship between the two traditional areas, stating, “The people of Techiman and Asante are united.”
Nana Firi II noted that both the Techimanhene, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, and the Asantehene belong to the Oyoko clan and frequently communicate and visit each other. He emphasized that there is “no way or justification” for the people of Techiman to attack the Asantehene.
To underscore the close relationship, the Krontihene detailed the customary rites performed for the Asantehene’s recent passage:
- A sheep was slaughtered and libation was poured at the River Tano on the Techiman-Kumasi highway.
- Similar rites were conducted at Fiaso on the Techiman-Nkoranza road for him to cross the River Fia.1
He confirmed that Otumfuo had informed the Techimanhene about his travel to Nkoranza for the funeral of the Paramount Queen Mother, Nana Dudaa Kani. The Acting President concluded by highlighting Techiman’s cosmopolitan nature, emphasizing its commitment to non-discrimination, and urging responsible use of social media.
