Local Government Minister Inaugurates Modern World Bank-Funded Markets in Techiman South and Nkoranza South

Mr. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, has officially opened new modern market facilities in both Techiman South and Nkoranza South Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies. These projects are part of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), which is backed by a $245 million World Bank loan aimed at boosting local economies.
Techiman’s Nana Abena Market Features:
- Commercial: 122 lockable stores and 68 market stalls.
- Services: Administration block, crèche, restaurant, and designated meat shop.
- Safety & Health: New fire station, police post, and health post.
- Infrastructure: Modern washrooms, advanced drainage systems (over 1,900m of U-drains), road junction upgrade, 1,900 sq. meters of paved walkways, a perimeter fence, and 28 streetlights.
Nkoranza Market Features:
- Commercial: A two-story building featuring 50 lockable stores and 100 market stalls.
- Services: Police post, health post, two mechanized boreholes (for water supply), and a two-unit crèche with an office.
During the inauguration, Minister Korsah emphasized that the facilities reflect the government’s commitment to creating vibrant, resilient communities by modernizing infrastructure. He urged municipal authorities to ensure the long-term maintenance of the facilities to support sustainable growth and local livelihoods.
