Techiman Youth Seek Two Men Over Alleged Homosexual Activity, Amidst Threat of Violence

In Takofiano, a suburb of Techiman in the Bono East Region, agitated youth are actively searching for two individuals, Fuseini Salifu (a Computer Engineer) and his friend Ahmed Anwar Sadat, following the discovery of their alleged involvement in homosexual activity.

The incident occurred earlier this month when Salifu was reportedly caught in the act by his mother, who raised an alarm. Fearing for his safety, Salifu immediately fled the area and is currently missing. In a retaliatory action, Anwar Sadat’s house was vandalized, and the youth have issued threats of violence against him and his family should they be found.

This situation occurs in the context of Ghana’s highly conservative, religiously driven society, where homosexuality is illegal under colonial-era laws and LGBT rights are severely restricted. Reports of physical attacks, ostracization, and evictions against LGBT individuals are sadly common.

Salifu’s younger brother, Hafix Mohammed (34), has filed a formal missing person complaint with the Techiman police, and an official announcement seeking information on Salifu’s whereabouts was made via local media on November 13, 2022.
