Chelsea was held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth in a Premier League match marked by injuries and a lack of attacking quality. The result leaves both teams winless in recent games, denting Chelsea’s title challenge aspirations.
The game was particularly concerning for Chelsea as striker Liam Delap was forced off with a shoulder injury following several physical duels with Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi. Delap was replaced by teenager Marc Guiu. Senesi was also later substituted due to injury.
Chelsea welcomed back Cole Palmer, starting for the first time since September 20 after recovering from a groin injury and fractured toe, but he lasted only 58 minutes.
Bournemouth thought they took an early lead through Antoine Semenyo, but the goal was ruled out by VAR due to Evanilson being marginally offside in the build-up.
Despite being the better side in the first half, Bournemouth struggled in attack late on, relying mainly on Semenyo’s individual brilliance to test Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez.
Chelsea dominated possession after the break, with Alejandro Garnacho hitting the post, but most efforts were limited to long-range shots.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola will be pleased with a point, despite the club now being six matches without a win, while Chelsea extends their winless streak to three matches.
