Kwesi Appiah Rejects Black Stars Return Amid Sudan’s AFCON Qualification Success

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has definitively dismissed the possibility of returning to manage the Black Stars, reaffirming his commitment to his current role as head coach of Sudan’s national team, the Falcons of Jediane.

Appiah signed a three-year contract with Sudan earlier this year and has already achieved a major success by guiding the team to qualify for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

This achievement contrasts sharply with the Black Stars’ recent failure to qualify for the same tournament, a campaign in which Sudan played a direct role by holding Ghana to a goalless draw in Accra and securing a 2-0 victory against them in Benghazi, Libya.

When asked about a potential return to the Black Stars – a team he previously coached – Appiah insisted he must remain focused on his current contract with Sudan. He told Asempa FM, “For now, I am focused on what I am doing with Sudan but for now, I don’t want to say anything because I don’t want to contradict myself.”
