Ghanaian comic actor Kalybos has ignited a social media debate following a surprising and blunt response about why he chose to marry his current wife instead of his long-term ex-girlfriend.
In a teaser for an upcoming episode of the Girls Aloud podcast, Kalybos was asked why he did not marry his girlfriend, Frimpongmaa, after being with her for five years.
He explained his decision by stating that long-term relationships do not automatically lead to marriage if the situation isn’t right: “Being in a relationship for a long time doesn’t mean you have to settle with the person if things aren’t right. When you reflect on your situation and realize things aren’t working, then…” When pressed further, he plainly stated that things were “No, it wasn’t” going well with Frimpongmaa.
The discussion took a sharp turn when a panelist asked if his decision to marry his current wife was because she is wealthy or from the diaspora:
“Did you marry your wife because she’s from the diaspora, or because she has money?”
Kalybos gave a serious, straightforward response: “Yeah, because she has money. She’s a rich woman.”
Kalybos recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife, having married on November 10, 2023.
