Gyakie Makes History as First African Woman to Join Spotify’s EQUAL Initiative

Ghanaian soul and Afro-fusion artist Gyakie (Jacqueline Acheampong) has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the first African woman to partner with the global audio streaming platform, Spotify, for its EQUAL initiative.
Gyakie was selected for the inaugural class of the EQUAL program, which is dedicated to fostering equity for women in music globally. This achievement earned her a coveted feature on a Times Square billboard in New York City.

The artist expressed her gratitude on social media:
“I am deeply honored to be the first African woman to partner with @Spotify for Equal. This is huge for so many women across the continent and the entire globe. I don’t take this lightly at all…”
The EQUAL initiative aims to amplify the voices of women in music worldwide, addressing the stark disparity where only one in five artists on the charts are women
