Fatal Accident on Kumasi-Techiman Highway Kills Eight, Police Investigate Cause

The death toll from a head-on collision at Nkenkensu on the Kumasi-Techiman highway has risen to eight fatalities (three women and five men), with several others sustaining injuries. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. on Wednesday when a cargo vehicle carrying frozen fish (GE-5097-23) reportedly lost control and collided with a Yuntong bus traveling from Yendi to Kumasi.

Francis Awuah, an assemblyman for the Offinso North District, confirmed the death toll reported by the district hospital. The deceased’s bodies have been moved to the morgue, and the injured are receiving medical treatment.

Awuah noted that the crash site is a dangerous curved section of the road marred by deep potholes, where frequent vehicle breakdowns increase safety risks. The highway has since been cleared for traffic, and police are investigating the cause.

This is the third road accident in the district in three weeks. In light of this and previous incidents involving tricycles, a disaster management coordinator in Offinso North has called for a nationwide review of protocols governing non-traditional transportation.
