Egypt Dismisses Midfielder Amr Warda from AFCON Squad Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA), hosts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), dismissed national team midfielder Amr Warda from the squad due to allegations of sexual harassment made by several women.
The EFA announced Warda’s removal from the team’s camp on Wednesday, citing “disciplinary reasons” following discussions with the player regarding his behaviour.
The 25-year-old, who played for Greek club PAOK, faced immediate scrutiny after several women, including Egyptian-British model Merhan Keller, publicly accused him of cyber sexual harassment.
Keller shared testimonies from other women who also received unwanted and aggressive messages from the footballer on platforms like Instagram. Screenshots detailing Warda’s allegedly inappropriate advances and aggressive reactions to rejection were widely shared on social media.
