Efia Odo Links Prostitution to Low Wages and Poor Governance

Socialite and actress Efia Odo has weighed in on the issue of prostitution in Ghana, arguing that the prevalence of sex work is directly linked to poorly paid jobs and the high cost of living, which leaves many women with no alternative.
In a video shared on her official Twitter account, Efia Odo stressed that not everyone who engages in sex work does so by choice. She highlighted the financial struggles of many young women, contrasting her own promotional opportunities with their plight:
“There are many girls who want to work. Not everyone wants to resort to prostitution. But some people have no choice, especially when teachers are earning just 400 or 700 cedis a month. People are working hard for nothing!”
Efia Odo strongly encouraged the public to join the #FixTheCountry movement, framing it as a vital, non-political call for a better life for all Ghanaians. She linked systemic issues like low wages to deeper problems of poor governance and inadequate social services:
“How can you be okay with children drinking contaminated water? Water with mercury. How is that acceptable? How are you okay with the lack of hospitals or hospital beds? How are you okay with children learning on the floor, or sitting on rocks? Would you allow your children to learn like that? If not, then why should it be acceptable for other children?”
She dismissed any claims that the #FixTheCountry campaign is a political agenda, stating that anyone who opposes the movement is either being paid to ignore the issues or is “mentally unwell.”
The #FixTheCountry movement gained momentum on social media as a call for accountability and better living standards for citizens.
