Education Minister Confirms Plan for New Technical Universities in Jasikan and Techiman

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the government’s plan to establish new specialized higher education institutions, including Technical Universities in Jasikan (Oti Region) and Techiman (Bono East Region).
Speaking at a media briefing on the 2026 education budget, the Minister clarified the final direction of the proposal. Initially, three sites were proposed for Technical Universities (Jasikan, Techiman, and Damango), but the plan has been revised:
- Damango (Savannah Region) will instead receive a University of Science and Technology.
- Jasikan and Techiman will proceed with receiving Technical Universities.
Mr. Iddrisu noted that he would consult with the President to finalize the decision but confirmed the intention is to proceed with the two Technical Universities and the University of Science and Technology in Damango.
This initiative is aligned with President John Mahama’s vision to expand access to tertiary education in underserved areas, strengthen technical education, and equip young people with the practical skills necessary for national development.
