Luka Modric Ends Decade-Long Dominance to Win 2018 Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has won the prestigious 2018 Ballon d’Or award, breaking the 10-year monopoly held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Modric achieved the recognition after a stellar year in which he secured his third consecutive Champions League trophy with Real Madrid and captained Croatia to their first-ever World Cup final appearance, ultimately losing to France.

Modric finished ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann, while Lionel Messi placed fifth in the poll. The top ten also featured several Premier League stars, including Mohamed Salah (6th), Eden Hazard (8th), and Kevin De Bruyne (9th), with England captain Harry Kane, who won the World Cup Golden Boot, ranking 10th.
