Former GFA Technical Director Calls for Review of Black Stars Management Committee’s $100,000 Compensation

Francis Oti Akenteng, the former Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has called for a critical review of the compensation packages awarded to members of the Black Stars Management Committee.
His comments came after he appeared before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism to discuss various issues surrounding Ghanaian football. The call for a review is specifically aimed at the widely reported payment of $100,000 to each member of the Management Committee following Ghana’s early exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
While Oti Akenteng acknowledged that management members deserve to be paid for their work, he questioned the appropriateness and scale of the sum, especially for individuals who might have had minimal involvement.
“If you look at some of their roles, it’s not bad, except that you cannot be paying everyone like I’m hearing – that some people took $100,000 just for being a member of the management committee… Perhaps the person attended just one or two meetings, but because they are a member of the Black Stars Management Committee, they got paid. Yes, they should be remunerated, but not to that extent,” he stated.
During the 2022 World Cup, the Black Stars recorded one victory (against South Korea) but suffered defeats to Portugal and Uruguay, resulting in their elimination in the first round.
