Kevin-Prince Boateng Reveals Initially Rejecting Ghana to Chase German Dream

Former AC Milan and Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has disclosed that he initially refused an offer to represent Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup because he felt more connected to his German upbringing and believed playing for Germany offered a bigger career platform.

Boateng, now 38, explained that despite his “arrogance,” his decision was initially career-driven. However, by 2010, when he finally made the switch to the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup in South Africa, he felt his personal stature was already established, saying, “it doesn’t matter what nationality I play.”

Boateng became a standout performer for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup and later featured in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, finishing his international career with 15 caps and two goals.
