Yoane Wissa Leaves Brentford Pre-Season Amid Transfer Uncertainty

Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has departed the team’s pre-season training camp in Portugal and returned to London amid mounting speculation regarding his future at the club.

The 28-year-old DR Congo international is scheduled to hold talks with Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles. This development follows the recent, high-profile sale of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.

Transfer Interest:

  • A trio of Premier League clubs – Newcastle, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest – are reportedly keen on signing Wissa.
  • All three clubs can offer the forward European football, and agreeing to personal terms, especially with Tottenham or Newcastle, is not expected to be an issue, as their pursuit has intensified over the last 48 hours.
  • Wissa has reportedly been unsettled by the ongoing transfer speculation and is understood to prefer a move away this summer, despite Brentford’s attempts to open new contract negotiations.

Brentford’s Dilemma:

The club initially planned on retaining Wissa after Mbeumo’s departure. However, with Wissa turning 29 in September and having only 12 months left on his current contract (plus a club option for an extra year), Brentford faces the prospect of a depreciating asset.

The club may now consider selling him this summer for a potential fee in the region of £40 million or more.

Wissa, who joined from Lorient in August 2021, has scored 49 goals in 149 games in all competitions for the Bees, including 19 goals in 35 Premier League games last season.
