Buoyam Chief Threatens New Protest, Gives Government One-Month To Fix Road

The chiefs and residents of Buoyam in the Techiman North District are threatening a new round of massive street protests due to the ongoing neglect and poor condition of their roads.
Daasebre Kwarteng Amaniapong, the Chief of Buoyam, expressed deep frustration that the bad roads in the key agricultural and tourist hub are severely hindering the transportation of produce and escalating socio-economic disparity and poverty. Despite previous appeals and petitions submitted to the District Chief Executive (DCE), the community has received no communication or plan for road repairs.
The Chief has issued a one-month ultimatum to the government to address the long-standing road issues, which he notes have persisted under successive governments. Daasebre Amaniapong warned that if no action is taken within this timeframe, he will personally lead the residents in a protest.
Residents echoed the chief’s frustration, highlighting the risk of accidents and difficulty traveling, especially during the rainy season, with one resident explicitly stating, “if the roads are not fixed, we will not vote.”
