Blogger Sammy Kay Arrested by CSA for Sharing Explicit Content and Misusing Officials’ Images

Celebrity blogger Samuel Dortey Kumah, widely known as Sammy Kay, has been arrested and handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service for allegedly sharing sexually explicit content and unlawfully using the images of officials from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA).

The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued by the CSA on November 16, 2023. The statement explicitly named Sammy Kay, the owner of Sammykaymedia, stating that the linking of explicit material with the images of CSA officials constituted a “misrepresentation and of criminal attribution.” The authority completely distanced itself from the incident and urged the public to disregard any misleading information.

The controversy stemmed from a viral video that emerged on November 15, depicting explicit content. Some social media users speculated the video was linked to media personality Abena Korkor, who had previously threatened to leak explicit videos.

Following the initial post, Sammy Kay shared an apology on his social media on November 15, clarifying the error:

“Upon further investigations, we found out this picture above is not the same person in the video circulating yesterday on Twitter. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the post we initially made and deeply regret our actions in pairing this picture with Abena Korkor’s picture.”

He clarified that a photo of a man in a white T-shirt bearing the words “National Cyber Security Awareness Programme” was mistakenly paired with the explicit video.

Musician and satirist Kwame Asare Obeng (A Plus) publicly supported the blogger’s claim of mistaken identity, asserting that the individual in the viral video and the person in the photo were “two totally different people.”

The CSA concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to protecting the digital ecosystem and the safety of Ghanaians in collaboration with other security agencies.
