GFA Issues Final Warning to Betting Companies Over Unauthorized GPL Use

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a stern and final warning to all betting companies for the unauthorized use of its product, the Ghana Premier League (GPL), emphasizing that only its official sponsor is permitted to use the league for betting purposes.

Key Points from the GFA Statement

  • Exclusive Rights: The GFA stressed its status as the exclusive owner of all marketing, commercial, and other rights associated with the Ghana Premier League and all other GFA competitions.
  • Authorized Partner: The GFA confirmed that betPawa had been unveiled as the official headline sponsor of the league. betPawa was granted temporary permission to take selected bets on the remaining nine matchdays of the season, paving the way for a full agreement in the subsequent season.
  • Final Warning and Legal Action: The GFA explicitly cautioned all other betting companies to “desist from placing odds on Ghana Premier League matches without the necessary AUTHORISATION.”

The warning was issued as the league approached Matchday 27.
