Ama K. Abebrese Condemns Appointment of Officials with Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Renowned actress and women’s rights advocate Ama K. Abebrese has issued a scathing critique of the recent appointment of men with documented histories or allegations of sexual assault and harassment into significant government positions.
In a statement released on December 18, 2025, during the global “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence,” Abebrese argued that elevating such individuals to roles of national influence is a betrayal of ethical leadership.
She contended that these appointments signal a lack of accountability for gender-based misconduct and suggest that predatory behavior is not a barrier to professional advancement in the public sector.
Abebrese, who serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and has long championed causes like the removal of medical fees for rape victims, emphasized that a serious nation must prioritize the safety and dignity of its female citizens.
Her remarks have ignited a fierce debate online regarding the effectiveness of government vetting processes and the moral standards required for public office.
While she did not name specific individuals in her initial post, her comments coincide with broader calls from civil society for the new administration to uphold the Affirmative Action Act of 2024 and ensure that leadership roles are filled by individuals who reflect the values of justice and protection for all.
