Afua Asantewaa Reports Death Threats from “Kubala Kingdom” Group in Scotland

Ghanaian media personality and “Sing-a-thon” star Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has raised a public alarm after receiving threatening emails from a self-proclaimed African “tribe” known as the Kingdom of Kubala, currently based in the Scottish Borders.
Afua revealed on November 5, 2025, that the group’s leader, who styles himself as King Atehene, sent her intimidating messages that included specific details about her three daughters. The threats allegedly escalated after Afua publicly warned her followers about the group following an invitation she received to become their “Queen Mother” – an offer she rejected.
The Kingdom of Kubala has been at the center of international headlines throughout 2025:
- The Group: It consists of three members—Kofi Offeh (King Atehene, a former opera singer from Ghana), his wife Jean Gasho (Queen Nandi, from Zimbabwe), and Kaura Taylor (Asnat, a 21-year-old from Texas who was previously reported missing).
- The Claim: They believe they are descendants of “Black Jacobites” reclaiming Scottish land they allege was stolen from their ancestors 400 years ago.
- Legal Status: Following a months-long standoff in the woods of Jedburgh, the group was officially evicted and arrested on October 2, 2025, on suspicion of immigration offenses and illegal encampment.
Afua disclosed that UK authorities (Police Scotland) have contacted her to gather evidence from the emails as part of an ongoing investigation into the harassment. Despite the group’s recent legal troubles and eviction, the cryptic messages – such as “Where the word of the king is, there is power” – have left the media personality fearful for her safety.
She stated that she went public not just for her own protection, but to alert other women who might be targeted by the group’s unconventional recruitment tactics.
