Tottenham Names Thomas Frank as Head Coach Until 2028

Tottenham Hotspur has officially appointed former Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new head coach, signing the 51-year-old Dane to a contract that runs until 2028.

Frank takes over from Ange Postecoglou, who was controversially dismissed earlier this month despite having just guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years by winning the Europa League final.

Frank brings a proven track record, having spent seven successful years at Brentford, culminating in leading the club from the Championship into the Premier League in 2021. He is the fourth permanent manager for Spurs since June 2021.

Last season, despite finishing 17th in the league, the team secured Champions League qualification by winning the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Frank is integrating his own team, bringing assistant coach Justin Cochrane, head of performance Chris Haslam, and first-team analyst Joe Newton from Brentford. He is also joined by assistant coach Andreas Georgson from Manchester United.

Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles, issued a statement thanking Frank for his “incredible impact,” praising his “wisdom, coaching ability and emotional intelligence” for transforming the club and developing a strong culture.

The appointment was met with some controversy, particularly from captain Cristian Romero, who posted a message to the sacked Postecoglou saying, “You paved the way despite the many obstacles that always existed and always will exist.”

This line has been widely interpreted by fans as a pointed critique of Spurs owner Daniel Levy for his decision to fire the trophy-winning manager.
