Bryan Mbeumo Joins Manchester United from Brentford in £65m Deal

Manchester United has completed the signing of winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial fee of £65 million, bringing to an end one of the summer’s longest transfer sagas.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international has signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.
This transfer follows seven weeks of negotiations, with United’s third offer – valued at an initial £65 million plus £6 million in add-ons – finally being accepted last week, after their first two bids of £55 million and £62.5 million were rejected.
Player and Club Reactions:
- Mbeumo stated that joining United, “the club of his dreams,” was an opportunity he “had to take,” noting he wore the shirt growing up. He expressed his determination to challenge for major trophies and improve under manager Rúben Amorim.
- United Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, praised Mbeumo’s “exceptional” goals and assists record and his consistency, highlighting the player’s “belief in our project and determination to join the club.”
- Brentford Director of Football, Phil Giles, thanked Mbeumo for his “fantastic efforts” across six seasons, acknowledging that the move to “one of the biggest clubs in the world” was the right time for the player to move on.
Mbeumo’s Record:
Mbeumo scored 70 goals and registered 51 assists in 242 games for Brentford since joining in 2019. Last season, he achieved career highs with 20 Premier League goals and seven assists.
His £65 million fee sets a new club record for Brentford’s biggest-ever sale, surpassing the £40 million received for Ivan Toney in August 2024.
Mbeumo is the third summer signing for manager Rúben Amorim, following forward Matheus Cunha and left-back Diego Leon, and is expected to join the squad for their pre-season tour of the United States on Thursday.
