Police Report Confirms Eight Fatalities, Including Three Minors, in 2020 Electoral Violence

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Isaac Ken Yeboah, announced at a press conference that a total of eight individuals were killed, including three minors (aged 12, 14, and 16), during the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections. Additionally, approximately 15 voters sustained injuries, primarily from gunshot wounds.
COP Yeboah detailed that the violence occurred in various locations, including Tamale, Techiman, Odorkor, Ablekuma, and Savelugu, with most incidents taking place after Election Day during the vote collation process.
He strongly affirmed that the police would offer no protection to anyone involved in inciting violence and guaranteed that ongoing investigations would work to bring all responsible parties to justice. He urged the public to assist the police with their inquiries.
The police have made several arrests, including Duko Naa Mohammed Ahmed, the Chief of Duko. A significant cache of weapons was recovered during operations, including Beretta and Smith & Wesson pistols, an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, a ballistic vest, pepper spray, and various rounds of ammunition and magazines.
Furthermore, several suspects, including Geoffrey (alias Wadaada), Emmanuel Geo-Nai, and Reverend Esinam Robert Oforfor, along with over 30 others, have been charged with serious offenses, including murder, causing unlawful harm, unlawful damage, and unlawful assembly.
