Mesut Özil and Amine Gülşe Fund 1,000 Surgeries Instead of Receiving Wedding Gifts

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil and his fiancée, Amine Gülşe, marked their wedding day by making a significant charitable gesture, paying for 1,000 children around the world to receive life-changing surgery.
The couple, who were due to marry on Friday (June 7, 2019), chose to forgo traditional wedding gifts. Instead, Özil publicly invited guests and fans to donate to a charity that funds essential operations for children in developing countries suffering from conditions such as burns, club feet, and cleft lip and palate.
In a social media post, the former Germany international stated:
“Amine and I will bear the expenses for surgeries of 1,000 children in need.”
This philanthropic act continues Özil’s history of significant charitable giving; he previously donated his 2014 World Cup winnings (estimated at £240,000) to fund surgery for 23 children in Brazil.
