Nadia Eke Sets New National Record, Qualifies for World Championships and 2020 Olympics

Ghanaian triple jumper Nadia Eke secured qualification for both the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Qatar and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games by shattering the national record in her event.

Competing at the 2019 Racers/Adidas Grand Prix in Jamaica, the 26-year-old opened with a massive Personal Best of 14.33m (+0.8) on her first jump. This mark decisively broke the previous national record of 13.93m, which Eke herself had set in 2017.

The 2016 African Champion became the third Ghanaian athlete to qualify for an individual event at the World Championships, joining sprinters Josephine Anokye and Joseph Amoah.

The Ghana women’s 4x100m relay team also previously secured their spot for the global showcase in Doha, which was set to begin in late September.
