“I Didn’t Make a Dime”: Waje Reveals Unpaid Role in P-Square’s Iconic ‘Do Me’

During a revealing interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast in November 2025, Nigerian singer Waje shared the untold story of her uncredited and unpaid contribution to P-Square’s 2007 continental hit “Do Me.”

She explained that as a young mother and inexperienced church singer signed to a small label at the time, she was primarily focused on her craft rather than the business complexities of royalties or contracts.

When the song became a massive success, Waje did not receive any financial compensation, a situation she attributes to her own lack of industry knowledge and misplaced trust in her management at the time.

Her account also clarified her absence from the song’s iconic music video, which was filmed in South Africa. Waje noted that a sudden demand for a passport and visa within a two-week window proved impossible to fulfill, leading her to miss the opportunity to appear alongside the duo.

Despite the financial oversight and the missing credit on early physical releases, she recalled her time at P-Square’s home studio fondly, noting that it was there she finished her own breakout track, “I Wish.”

Ultimately, Waje used the platform to highlight the vulnerability of young artists who contribute to major hits without the necessary infrastructure to protect their interests. While she maintains her professional respect for P-Square and chose not to comment on their personal family disputes, her story serves as a cautionary tale for upcoming talent.

She emphasized that while raw talent is a powerful door-opener, understanding the operational and financial side of the music business is essential for turning early success into a sustainable career.
