67 Dead, Many Burned Beyond Recognition in Techiman-Kintampo Highway Bus Collision

A devastating head-on collision between two buses on the Techiman-Kintampo highway in the early hours of Friday resulted in the deaths of 67 people. The accident occurred around 1:00 AM near “Watchman,” a farming settlement. The buses involved were a Grandbird (GT 5694-18) traveling from Garu to Kumasi and a VIP bus (GT 3916-17) traveling from Accra to Bolgatanga.
The collision was so severe that one of the buses caught fire, leading to 35 of the deceased being burned beyond recognition. Two survivors later died upon arrival at the Jema Government Hospital, confirming the total fatality count of 67.
Dr. Prince Kwabena Tabiri, Medical Officer at Jema Government Hospital, confirmed the high number of charred bodies in the morgue and reported that approximately 30 injured individuals were receiving treatment, with many in critical condition.
Separately, at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital, Administrator Mr. Christopher Akanbobnaab reported admitting 30 injured patients, with six in critical condition, two of whom were undergoing surgery.
