GFA President Kurt Okraku Refutes Claims of Government Funding for the Association

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has refuted long-standing allegations that the association receives direct funding from the Ghanaian government.

During a recent hearing before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Monday, Okraku sought to clarify the financial relationship, stating unequivocally: “For the record, the government of Ghana doesn’t give GFA any money. No money comes into the GFA’s coffers from the government.”

Okraku clarified that all financial support is channelled through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which is responsible for funding national team-related activities, including budgeting and making all statutory payments for tournaments and qualifiers. He added that an accountant from the Ministry oversees these transactions, ensuring the GFA has no role in the financial process.

His comments were made in direct response to financial accusations, including those related to the alleged inflation and mismanagement of funds, which were highlighted in a petition submitted to Parliament by demonstrators from the “Save Ghana Football” movement.
