FIFA Condemns Killing of Investigative Journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale

The world football governing body, FIFA, has expressed its profound distress and sadness over the fatal shooting of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale in Accra, Ghana.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale was tragically killed on Thursday by assailants riding a motorbike in the Madina suburb of Accra, while he was on his way to visit his sick child. He was shot three times—twice in the chest and once in the neck. He has since been buried.

Role in Football Corruption Exposure:

  • Ahmed Hussein-Suale played a crucial role in the investigative documentary ‘Number 12’, which exposed widespread corruption in African football, notably involving the Ghana Football Association.
  • The exposé led to FIFA handing a lifetime ban to former Ghana Football Association President and FIFA Council member Kwesi Nyantakyi for violations concerning conflicts of interest, bribery, and corruption.

In its statement, FIFA reiterated its “support for journalists doing important investigative work,” recognizing that such work often leads to improved governance standards across public life, not just in football.
