Ghanaian footballer Kingsley Sarfo was released from a Swedish prison earlier this week on the grounds of good conduct after serving a two-year and eight-month sentence.
The 24-year-old former Malmö FF player was jailed in 2018 after being found guilty of two counts of child rape stemming from incidents in September 2016 and June 2017. Sarfo had maintained his innocence throughout the trial, pleading not guilty and claiming he was unaware the girl was underage.
Following his release, Sarfo, who was also reportedly accused of other sexual activities with underage girls during his time at Malmö FF, has been deported to Ghana.
He is now planning to restart his professional football career with a local team. Sarfo is the second Ghanaian player, after Kwame Bonsu, to be jailed in Sweden.
