Matheus Cunha Completes £62.5m “Dream” Move to Manchester United

Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has completed a £62.5 million move to Manchester United from Wolves, confirming that signing for the club is the realization of his “dream.”

United finalized the deal, which was subject to a visa and medical, after activating a release clause in Cunha’s contract earlier this month. The 25-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the option of an additional 12 months.

Cunha expressed his excitement, stating that it was difficult to put his feelings into words. He revealed that since childhood, watching Premier League games in Brazil, United was his favorite English team, and he had always dreamed of wearing the red shirt.

United Director of Football, Jason Wilcox, emphasized the importance of the signing, saying that bringing in Cunha was “one of our main priorities for this summer,” and expressed delight at completing the transfer early in the window.

Cunha scored 31 goals in 76 games for Wolves after joining them from Atletico Madrid in 2023.

Despite the high-profile signing, the article notes that Manchester United will not be playing European football next season, having failed to reach the Champions League knockout stages for more than three years.
