Rhythms on Da Runway 2019: The Year of Return Edition

The 2019 edition of Rhythms on Da Runway, organized by broadcaster and fashion designer Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) and his Nineteen57 outfit, successfully concluded on Saturday, August 31, 2019.
The show, which successfully blended fashion and music, was held at the historic Christiansborg (Osu) Castle in Accra – a first for the event – and was themed “The Year of Return Edition.”
Highlights of the Event
- Venue & Theme: The use of the iconic Osu Castle and the “Year of Return” theme emphasized the Pan-African nature of the event, aiming to tell the African story through its rich cultural heritage.
- Designers: Top designers and creatives from across Africa and the diaspora showcased artistic and innovative collections. Notable designers included:
- Ghana: Yartel, Ophelia Crossland, Velma’s Accessories, Nineteen57, Lumiere Couture, Abrantie, and StephhappGh.
- Nigeria: Mudi
- South Africa: Palse
- UK: JésuSégun
- Performances: The night was interspersed with music, with Dancehall star Stonebwoy delivering an energetic and memorable performance. Other top musical acts who thrilled the audience included Becca (who performed during the Velma Accessories presentation), Obrafour, Pat Thomas, Joe Mettle, Epixode, Paulina Oduro, Cina Soul, Trigmatic, and King Promise.
- Hosts & Models: The event was hosted by renowned broadcasters Nathaniel Attoh and Nana Aba Anamoah. A unique feature of the show was the integration of celebrity guest models, including former beauty queen Ruth Quashie, Jay Foley, and Akumaa Mama Zimbi, who walked the runway alongside professional models.
KOD’s event was widely hailed by patrons as a memorable fusion of style and culture, fitting its role as a premier African fashion-music showcase.
