Kwesi Nyantakyi and A World Cup Referee Accused of Fraud

An explosive undercover investigation by Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has implicated a World Cup-bound referee and the President of the Ghana Football Association in accepting cash gifts, raising major corruption concerns.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, CAF First Vice-President, and a member of the prestigious FIFA Council, was caught in a separate sting operation. The footage shows Nyantakyi accepting $65,000 in “shopping money” from an undercover reporter posing as a wealthy Middle Eastern businessman.
Nyantakyi subsequently negotiated a fraudulent sponsorship deal for the GFA that could have allowed him to divert up to $4.5 million in GFA funds to one of his personal companies.
Separately, Kenyan official Adel Range Marwa, who was scheduled to be one of Africa’s referees at the upcoming World Cup in Russia, was filmed receiving a $600 “gift” from an undercover reporter. Following the exposé, FIFA confirmed that Marwa has resigned his role and will no longer officiate at the World Cup.
The investigation, parts of which were exclusively reviewed by BBC Africa Eye, has been forwarded to FIFA’s investigatory and judicial bodies for follow-up action.
